Classifying bursting oscillations using slow-fast dynamics
In this talk, I will present recent work on multiple-timescale dynamical systems displaying complex oscillations with both slow and fast components. I will first review bursting oscillations and how to classify them using the bifurcation structure of the so-called fast subsystem. Then, I will show how to extend the previous classification by using both fast and slow subsystems, in the case of four-dimensional bursting models with two slow and two fast variables. [this is joint work with Serafim Rodrigues (BCAM, Bilbao, Spain) and John Rinzel (NYU and Courant Institute, New York, USA].
