A braid-group method for blow-up in nonlinear heat equations

In this talk I will present intriguing applications of the braid group theory to the study of blow-up in a nonlinear heat equation $u_t = \Delta u + u^p$, where $p$ is supercritical in the Sobolev sense. One of the goals is to classify the type II blow-up rates by analyzing the topological properties of certain braids. I will also discuss other applications of this method.
