Adjoint Lifts and the Ramification of Modular Endomorphism Algebras

We shall explain how the slopes of an automorphic form, closely related to the Jacquet-Gelbart adjoint lift of a holomorphic cuspidal eigenform f, almost completely determine the Brauer class of the endomorphism algebra of the motive M_f attached to f. This is partly joint work with Debargha Banerjee.
