Multiphisics and multimodel coupling in the numerical simulation of the cardiovascular system

Modelling the functioning of the cardiovascular system requires to address the interaction of phenomena often governed by different physics and operating at different space and time scales. Moreover, the need for simplification often leads to reduced models, like lumped parameter models for the systemic circulation, which need to be coupled with more detailed ones, such the model of the artery under investigation. In this talk we will present some results focused on the numerical modelling of blood flow in the main arteries, addressing the main mathematical and numerical issues as well as presenting some applicative cases. We will also give some examples of recent research activities on the numerical modelling of the electro-mechanical interaction in the heart.
