Piecewise hereditary algebras

A finite dimensional algebra A is called piecewise hereditary in case its bounded derived category is equivalent to the bounded derived category of a hereditary abelian category as triangulated categories. Examples of these algebras are the iterated tilted algebras as well as quasi-tilted algebras. It is an open problem whether this class admits a homological characterisation. We will derive a lot of homological properties of this class of algebras including Hochschild cohomology and properties of quadratic forms associated with these algebras.
