Unified continuum flow theory



We discuss a new formulation of the continuum fluid and solid mechanics as one system of first-order hyperbolic partial differential equations of relaxation type. The theory we propose can be applied to modeling viscous flows (Newtonian or non-Newtonian) and elastoplastic deformations in solids. Numerical examples justifying our theory will be presented. We shall also discuss the plausible impact of our results on the next generation of CFD codes.
