Electrodeformation of Biological Capsules

Deformations induced by electric fields on the cellular membranes of biological capsules have driven more and more attention in bioengineering in the last few decades. In this talk, we will present how a model of this phenomenon has been integrated on a high-performance numerical platform for the numerical simulation of red blood cell suspensions. The focus will be put on the numerical challenges introduced by the representation of jump conditions along a moving interface. Focusing on the elliptic interface problem introduced by the model, we will describe an approach based on cutting the mesh along a polygonal representation of the interface. Instead of opting for classic conforming adaptation techniques, we will present a numerical framework supporting the appearance of polygonal elements.
