Orders of Finite Groups of Matrices

The first talk will be an introduction to the subject and an account of my latest paper in that area. The second talk is on joint work with Bob Guralnick. Both talks are meant to be accessible for a general audience. Especially the second talk, on groups of matrices, should also be accessible and of intererest to students, for the most part anyway.
