The Jacobian of a Riemann surface and the geometry of the cut locus of simple closed geodesics

We will first present a theoretical approach of how to estimate all entries of the period Gram matrix of the Jacobian of a Riemann surface. These estimates are based on the geometry of the cut locus of simple closed geodesics. Then we will give more practical estimates based on the geometry of Q-pieces. Finally we apply these methods to surfaces that contain small non-separating geodesics.
