Maximal stretch for varible negatively curve metrics
We introduce a notion of maximal stretch for general negatively curved metrics, motivated by the study of Thurston's asymmetric metric in Teichmuller space. Associated to this construction is a natural object, called the Mather set. We dicuss some of its properties in our setting. If time permits, we also discuss two other closely related sets, Peierls barrier zero set and stretch locus, with their chain recurrence feature. This is largely based on joint work with Gerhard Knieper.
