About the Use of Mathematics in Signal Theory Courses
After describing shortly the general role of mathematics in engineering studies in Germany, the presentation focuses on analyzing mathematical practices in signal theory courses. An extended praxeological model is applied as a tool for identifying different content-related discourses, in particular a "mathematical" (in fact there is more than one mathematical discourse) and an "engineering" discourse, and their intertwining. The discussion of logos-blocs is enriched by epistemological-philosophical ideas concerning the relation between "nature" and "laws of nature" as well as by a few subject-scientific considerations taking into account the societal-mediateness of teaching-learning processes.
