Atelier : The potential of Problem Graphs in interpreting teachers' design work
In our highly problem-oriented Hungarian mathematics education culture, expert teachers aim to nurture students’ mathematical creativity by conveying mathematical contents through problem situations. In this process, the disposition and arrangement of problems plays a crucial role, teachers mobilize complex systems of problems in their preparation. These systems of problems often exist only as a mental image, and not fully discernable from written documents or classroom work. We use problem graphs (a network representation) in our research to bring this underlying structure into light. In this workshop the participants will have the opportunity to first familiarize themselves with the problem graph approach through examples and group discussion, and then to build the problem graph of a predetermined set of problems.
