Discontinuous Galerkin discretizations on general polygonal and polyhedral meshes. Recent developments and application to the hemodynamics of the arteriovenous fistula

Agglomeration-based physical frame discontinuous Galerkin (dG) discretizations: Physical frame dG discretizations allow to increase accuracy and geometrical flexibility staying competitive in terms of efficiency with standard reference frame discretizations. The use of agglomerated elements, obtained clustering together standard cells of an underlying grid, might simplify the mesh generation process in the context of high-order accurate CFD computations. Hemodynamics of the arteriovenous fistula (AVF): The non-physiological conditions occurring after anastomosis creation, such as high blood flow rates and flow instabilities, pose a potential challenge to numerical solution strategies. A recently introduced projection method based on a dG-cG velocity-pressure space couple is applied and validated for the simulation of such convection-dominated flows.
